SGC was founded in 1991 by Ted and Leila Rosser.
Since 1991, SGC has worked in several capacities with over 800 organisations that vary from small local companies to large multinational organisations, primarily in the UK but also in the EU and in numerous other countries around the world.
In 1991, one of SGC’s first assignments was to develop criteria and a process for sustainable investment decision making for a major London City bank. In that year it also supported the due diligence process during the privatisation of the Hungarian pharmaceutical sector.
In 1992, SGC was closely involved in the supporting organisations establish and implement the BS 7750 standard specification for environmental management systems and the EU Eco-Management and Audit System and, in subsequent years, the revised standards: ISO 14001:1994, ISO 14001:2004 and the current ISO 14001:2015
In 1994, the company established a relationship with LG Harris, the surveyors group, working on pre-acquisition due diligence on behalf of a major pension fund which continued for over eight years.
SGC achieved accreditation from IEMA for its 5-day Environmental Lead Auditor Course in 1997.
SGC commenced its long term relationship with B&Q in 1998, supporting the delivery of its QUEST sustainability programme, which is still ongoing
SGC has been closely involved in EU Emissions Trading Scheme verification since its inception in 2004, predominantly with major UK based oil and gas companies
In 2006 and subsequent years, verification work involved visits to major deforestation and social responsibility projects in Malawi and Tanzania
In 2010 SGC undertook a carbon footprint demonstration project for a major Geneva based brand
In 2014, SGC launched the QUEST610.com portal on behalf of B&Q to support the assessment of the entire B&Q vendor base.
Also in 2014, SGC introduced energy management services covering the Energy Saving Opportunities Scheme Regulations and ISO 50001 with clients including oil and gas companies, a multi-site paper and packaging organisation and a leading Formula 1 team.
